This site focuses more on advice towards high school students interested in becoming a doctor.
Cardiology is a branch of internal medicine and interventional cardiology a super-specialty in cardiology - so you will have to follow this route.
I know preciously little about medical education in the Ukraine.

I unfortunately do not have too much information on how to become a doctor in Ethiopia - but the basics should be the same as in any other country - finish your high school diploma with excellent results (maths, science and biology) - then apply to one of the medical schools in Ethiopia.

Hi, im 14 years old and i am interested in becoming a doctor....right now i have all A's and one B and im going to hight school next year. I wanted to know how long would it take to be a doctor if you dont have to do your general education? Or can you even do that? I also wanted to know if the UCSF in san francisco would be a good school to become a doctor?
Ger. Mar.
10.Aug.2009 03:18am
The UCSF med school is in the top 5 Med Schools in the USA (2009 ratings)!
Your career path will be - complete your high school education with academic excellence then you will have to complete a 4 year B Degree (some premed requirements and MCAT exam), followed by 4 years of medical school and then at least 3 years of residency.

i am a 14 year old boy looking to pursue a career in medicine after college. I am entering high school and i need to know what type of colleges i need to get in and what type of grades i need to make in my biology classes. i have done a little research and i have been considering going to the med school in mississippi. is that a good choice? if not can you, can you refer me to more med schools that are better than the one in mississippi? thx.

When applying to med school you would like to impress the selection committee.
Take as many science (physics, chemistry and biology) and maths subjects as possible in high school, and excel in these subjects.
You selection is based on a number of things - the most important 2 are your B Degree results and your MCAT score - but things like volunteer work at hospitals and cultural activates, leadership potential does play a role as well.
These days adding medical science to your high school subjects does add to a great resume!

I like you great vision.
A clinic could be charity based or business based.
I would recommend that you do your B. Degree majoring in a business subject. Do your medical degree and network with likeminded individuals. Get more training in business administration and marketing. Opportunity will follow!

what is the difference between blood serum and plasma? pls can u throw more light on what CPR means, want to know more.........
maestro
08.Aug.2009 03:53am
Serum is the yellowish fluid remaining after blood has clotted and plasma is the component of blood remaining following the removal all red blood cells. Chemically they are essentially the same - but serum is without most of the clotting factors and blood platelets.
Regretfully space does not allow a full explanation on CPR - but the American Heart Association does have the best and latest on CPR. Maybe I will write one of my monthly letters on this topic.

hey.. i want to become a family physician. i've previously transfered from a high school to a votech (soon to be a sophmore) and i was wondering what pathway i should take in a votech to become a doctor. previously i was enrolled in all honors and i've completed geometry & algebra 1.
kurt
08.Aug.2009 03:45am
Hi Kurt
In my opinion the essentials are maths, chemistry and physics. Biology would be a bonus. You really have to prepare for admission to a B degree including some premedical requirements, and of course to write the MCAT. If you are in a Healthcare votech you should be all set.

does CPR mean chest compression?
is it possible that i can still do medicine after my 4 yr course in Medical Lab. Technology?
maestro
06.Aug.2009 01:54pm
CPP=Cardio-Pulmonary-Resuscitation
Yes chest compressions as mouth-to-mouth breathing if indicated.
It is not a common route towards becoming a doctor - but I'm sure that with a bit of persistence you will find a way.

as someone administering first aid to a heart attack or cardiac arrest victim, what must u do to save the life of the person or to lessen the risk of death?
maestro
06.Aug.2009 01:22am
Recognize a heart attack (usually severe pain in the chest) and get help immediately to avoid cardiac arrest. Call an ambulance/911. If a victim collapses in front of you and stops breathing, he or she is likely in cardiac arrest - START CPR

My first question is why one would want to study medicine in Russia - when the UK boasts with some of the world's most foremost medical schools.
I really don't know much about Russian med schools - but I did come across a couple of "red flags".
Have a look at this blog discussion for instance.. and it is not an isolated comment.

Hi Doctor Antons, we love what your doing, we want to test our efforts do we have to take the class to get credit for our study we bought the examination kit last year when it was expensive and now i see the class is over 400 dollars cant do both how can we get coupons or credits. Or even a series of question so our teacher can test our knowledge?
Roger

Roger
If you want official science credits you will have to do the online course. The course is offered by The Solid Rock Virtual School - and not by the Apprentice Doctor. I do have good relationships with the principal of the school and can approach her re: discount as per price for the kit ($60.00).
If you simply want your teacher to test your knowledge, I can forward a multiple choice exam to his/her e-mail address - so would you mind getting me the details?
Thank you for your positive comments!

Dr. Anton, can you please tell the clear cut differences between cardiac arrest and heart attack. in case of a cardiac arrest, what could one possibly do to save a life? why didn't the chest compressions save Michael Jackson?
maestro
01.Aug.2009 02:15pm
Cardiac arrest happens when your heart stops pumping blood effectively and the tissues and organs of your body do not get sufficient Oxygen.
A heart attack occurs when the heart ITSELF does not get enough Oxygen when an artery to the heart gets blocked.
The cause of Michael Jackson's death is still somewhat obscure - but most probably heart arrest - and a fair number of heart arrest patients need defibrillation to get their heart going in addition to external heart compressions.

Yes but you must go the BSN route. In order to get accepted to med school you must first have your BSN and meet the science pre-requirements:
"Freshman" chemistry along with the appropriate laboratory courses
Organic chemistry along with laboratory courses
Biology along with laboratory courses
Physics along with laboratory courses
English
Calculus including advanced math classes and statistics
And of course good MCAT results
